Olympic Games for Dummies

With just a few more nights to go, it's almost time for the Olympics Winter Games that make many sports hearts beat faster. For two weeks, I will be glued to the screen. And that's quite unique, because the TV at home is off more than it's on. Anyway, those Games. It might be that you can't quite keep up with my enthusiasm. Do you need a little convincing? I've put together a few fun facts for you on why you should definitely be watching Because it's really not just about the sport... Ha.

1. This year, the Winter Games are being held in the northeast of South Korea. The town of Pyeongchang is located about 180 kilometers east of the capital Seoul in the Taebaek Mountains, which will provide brilliant pictures and the urge to see it with your own eyes as soon as possible.

2. No less than 22,000 bitterballen will be flown over to the South Korean country. All for that motherland feeling.

3. The total Dutch team consists of 34 athletes this time.

4. No less than 10 ladies and 10 gentlemen will take to the ice in Pyeongchang. They will showcase their performances at various distances.

5. We set the absolute medal record in Sochi in 2014. Will we surpass 24, four years later?

6. If you don't care much about the competitions, then the male beauty working up a sweat is definitely worth sitting down for. I mention from our own soil: Kjeld Nuis. Kjeld will compete in the 500, 1000, and 1500 meters on skates.

7. But the 28-year-old Austrian Max Franz is also worth watching. Last year he finished thirteenth at the World Alpine Skiing Championships, let's see what he can do next week.

8. Well, our Sven Kramer certainly cannot be missing from the list of male beauty. The 31-year-old hunk will participate in the Olympic Winter Games for the fourth time this year. Will he finally win gold in the 10 kilometers?

9. For the 14th time, NOC*NSF and Heineken are offering a house where fans from both the Netherlands and other countries can enjoy sports and where Dutch Olympic success is celebrated.

10. Mark Tuitert and Jeroen van Velzen will present the Olympic honors at the HHH for the first time this year. And secretly, I'm very happy about that. I mean: Mark...

11. Skater Jan Smeekens will carry the Dutch flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games. Last year, the 30-year-old skater became world champion in the 500 meters. He will also compete in Pyeongchang at that distance.

12. Looking forward to a party but don't have a ticket to South Korea? At Leidseplein in Amsterdam, you will find the Holland Heineken House, where you can watch all the matches on a big screen with an ice-cold beer on the left and a bitterbal on the right.
