The 7 habits of people with a tidy home
My father-in-law is one of those. When you come to his house, it's as if the housekeeping has been by. No knick-knacks, all cups immediately in the dishwasher. Good lord, how I always feel like a failed housewife when I see that system. ‘It's a matter of getting used to,’ he always says. Are you also part of Team Sloddervos and let everything pile up until you can't see the forest for the trees? Time to take a look at Team Netjes. And in particular: the habits they maintain.
They tidy up their clothes every evening
So tempting. Stepping into your pajamas and throwing the rest of your clothes over that chair in the bedroom. But take a few seconds to put your clothes in the laundry basket or hang them up.
They have no unnecessary extras
No, Kiek, so not three scissors, six duvet covers, four bathrobes, and ten sad stuffed animals that cannot be thrown away because they ‘live’. If you don't need it: get rid of that stuff. It saves you a ridiculous amount of space if you do this with everything.
They limit the paper hazard lying around
Old newspapers, magazines, flyers that sit on the counter for weeks: all looks quite restless, right? Keep your most important papers in a box and throw the rest away. Also unsubscribe from all door-to-door spam immediately and try to digitize as many important papers as possible.
They hang coats on coat racks
And immediately put those shoes away. And they make their bed neat again in one minute as soon as they get out.
They immediately tidy up those coffee cups (and plates and cutlery and everything)
Coffee finished? Why would you walk all the way to the kitchen with your cup but then not put it in the dishwasher? You're just saving yourself an extra action for later, right? Especially in a small kitchen, this is ideal to prevent mess.
They put things back in their designated place
Everyone has a spot in their house where the most random stuff is piled together. Flyers, keys, batteries, loose knick-knacks. Team Net doesn't have that. Team Net has come up with a system: a designated spot for everything, so they can find it again immediately when needed.
They often do mini-cleanups
Just quickly vacuum the floor for four minutes during work, eeeeeven quickly wipe the table after dinner. Quickly throw those flyers in the bin. Quickly do that laundry on Tuesday evening. And this way Team Net can go out all Sunday, while we have to do eighteen loads of laundry on Sunday and clean the whole darn house. #LoveMyLife
