The Evil Drunk

4 facts and fables

It was warm again. The sun begged for a little boat and a cooler with wine. Or for a park, a blanket, and a bottle. And oh, you seized the day, so you could definitely have a glass in the afternoon. And a sip. One became cheerful, another fell asleep (me) and the third became annoying. Or sad. The angry drunk, in short. What should we do with it? On Blendle I read an article about the annoying phenomenon; I distilled the fables and facts.

1. Women get angry drunk just as often as men

That is fairly true, were it not that women become emotional (and jealous) more quickly and men are quicker to resort to physical violence.

2. The angry drunk is in your genes

Of course, you will be quicker to get angry and irritable if you feel unsafe and deceived. That can be stronger during certain periods in your life than in others. Still, there are people who really always suffer from an angry drunk. They can't help it. Except by drinking less, of course.

3. Beer and wine don't make you angry drunk

Fable. It's about the alcohol percentage in your blood. Strong drinks contain more alcohol, so you will get drunk faster and open the door more quickly for that angry drunk, but if you drink enough beer and wine, it will definitely come too.

4. You can unlearn an angry drunk

Fable. You will always be a person who is sensitive to alcohol and derives negative consequences from it. What you can do about it is simple: drink less. And maybe it helps if you ask a loved one you trust to make a video of you in a noticeable state. Hopefully, that will prevent you from saying ‘yes please’ the next time someone offers you another gin and tonic.

By the way, I have a sweet drunk. I give people compliments about things I actually don't like at all. So if you suddenly hear me going on about musicals and camping; it was the drink that spoke to you, not me.
