The Golden Globes in a nutshell

There was one color that dominated the night in always sunny California: black. Of course, for a reason, because last night not only all the films, series, and actors that have done well in the past year were in the spotlight, no, the Golden Globes were marked by #MeToo with a fitting opening from the presenter Seth Myers: ‘Good evening ladies and remaining gentlemen.’

The lady of the night? Oprah Winfrey. She received a lifetime achievement award and during her acceptance speech, she also took the time to express her support for all women who have ever been victims of abuse or violence, including herself. ‘There will come a day when women and men will rise up to ensure that no one ever has to say ‘me too’ again.’ By the way, if you take a look at social media, especially on Twitter, you will see that it is quite clear who people would like to see as the successor to Donald Trump. I vote for.

Yes, Harvey Weinstein was discussed and also Kevin Spacey and several people who have been linked to sexual misconduct in this industry, but the skewed power dynamics and inequality in Hollywood were also mentioned. But I still want to talk about the winners of the evening, because it is and remains an award show to honor the people who have created something exceptional.

To begin with someone who, in my opinion, has truly earned it: Nicole Kidman. For everyone who has not yet Big Little Lies seen it: do it. Not only did Nicole win an award for this, but the series also received the Golden Globe for Best Television Limited Series and Best Miniseries. Colleague Alexander Skarsgård also won a Golden Globe statue. Even more series that did well last night are This Is Us and The Handmaid’s Tale – so if you are still looking for inspiration to binge something?

Back to the films, because let's not forget: the Golden Globes are often seen as a kind of prediction of who will do well during the Oscars. If last night is anything to go by, these are the big winners we can expect: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird, The Darkest Hour, and The Shape of Water.

Anyway, this was a brief report of the winners. I will return to you shortly with a more detailed report of the looks and more things that went down in Hollywood last night.
