The phrase that EVERYONE suddenly uses

Suddenly it's there. Such a phrase that everyone uses. A few years ago, everyone was talking about ‘my thing’ and then we collectively pronounced ‘puntnl’ at the end of every sentence. ‘I'm back from the company lunch making point nl.’ Almost impressive how a phrase works its way in within a breath. Trends are not limited to clothing and interior design. Even in language, there are observable movements.

The latest ‘new black’ in language is to ‘go nice on it’ somewhere. When asked if someone wants an omelet for breakfast, the answer is: ‘No thanks, I don't really go nice on that.’ Or to emphasize that the new song is really awesome, it is said: ‘I really go nice on that.’ Even my own Kiekster Instagrammed last week: ‘Ibiza, I'm already going nice on you.’

Maybe I'm becoming an absolute old fart (this is the checklist by which you can see that you are old) but the phrase fascinates me. Because what does it mean to go nice on something? I associate it with sex, or is that my dirty mind? Because what do you enjoy so much about that song or that special location? I know what others will say: ‘It gives energy, it makes you happy, it does something to you.’ I really get it, but it sounds so little refined.

I will have to get used to it because even though I don't really go nice on it, it is for a lot of people now really their thing. Puntnl.
