Things that are fun to do at a baby shower

Suddenly, I had become it. The hostess of the baby shower. Together with the sister of one of my best friends, we come together to exchange ideas, share Pinterest boards, create a guest list, whip up an invitation, and finally stock up on a lot of decorations. It’s a task that is underestimated. At least, if you want to give it a bit of an original and Pinterest-proof twist. And there have been quite a few hours spent on that baby brainstorm beforehand, but here they are: our ideas that I am more than happy to share with you to organize your sister's, sister-in-law's, friend's, neighbor's, colleague's a.k.a. favorite person's baby shower like a pro. And perhaps even more importantly: with things that are actually fun to do. As in: no tasting baby snacks, measuring bellies, and decorating onesies.

A mommy-proof dinner

Think of mocktails and sushi that she can still have instead of a standard brunch or high tea. A dinner where the pregnant lady in question can enjoy hours of dining with only fun people and eat and drink what she is allowed. No fuss with complicated cheeses and raw meat.

What will the baby look like?

Print photos of the mommy and daddy to be, cut them out, and let the puzzle begin.

Open house

No fixed times, but a time frame of an entire afternoon during which guests can come and go as they please. And because not everyone arrives at the same time, the expectant mother has more time to chill with all her guests and gets pleasantly surprised when new people walk in.

All the way namasté

Surprise her with a yoga class as the opening of the baby shower where only friends and family of the mommy to be are present. This is going to be a blast, you understand.

Karaoke is always a good idea

Forbidden-word karaoke where the word ‘baby’ cannot be sung in a playlist featuring artists like Britney Spears (‘Baby, One More Time’) and Big Mountain (‘Baby I Love Your Way').

Who is it?

Guessing baby photos is not something new at a baby shower, but how fun is it to switch a number of baby photos of the guests with funny photoshopped Google babies?

Mani- and pedicure

For the mother-to-be to go into labor with well-painted nails, but certainly also for the guests. This is relaxing time at its coziest.

Guessing names

And the birth date. Write it down on a piece of paper and put it in a balloon filled with confetti and helium beforehand. The future mother can only open the balloon at home and must therefore carry a huge bunch of balloons home, which once at home provides a lot of funny names and a confetti surprise.

Photobooth

And not cliché, but with a cool flower backdrop
