Body & Mind
This is how you survive the first day of the new year
There he is again, the first day of a new year that is anything but fresh. Every year it's the same song. You know you're going to indulge in the bubbles, you know you're going to stumble home, and you know that the next day you'll have more holes than memories. The damage is already done, so stop with the self-pity and take these tips with you. This way you survive today and sit fresh behind your desk tomorrow.
- Water is the best remedy for a hangover. Fill that bottle, your body is dehydrated and could use some moisture.
- Ginger contains a lot of magnesium and zinc, which help relieve pain and combat nausea.
- Sex = endorphins = pain-relieving = hangover killer
- Asparagus contain amino acids that help flush out waste from your body. Toast with a poached egg, green asparagus, avocado, and smoked salmon: a great breakfast, I thought?
- Bananas are full of minerals (including potassium) that were lost last night because alcohol dehydrated your body. Additionally, they work pain-relieving for headaches. Get the blender out of the cupboard and make a big shake of banana, oatmeal (which also stabilizes your blood sugar), coconut water (hydrates), and some Greek yogurt (soothes the intestines).
Watermelon helps restore your fluid balance and replenishes the vitamins and minerals you need to come out of your coma. Moreover, they are full of fiber, so stay close to the toilet. - Cuddling ensures that the cuddle hormone oxytocin is released. So pull your loved one into bed and the headache will disappear like snow in the sun.
- Fat is what your body craves during a hangover, you know it, I know it. Not a problem and it's allowed, but it's better not to run to the kebab shop but to dive into the kitchen yourself. Just for a moment, because you can whip up a great hangover breakfast on your plate in ten minutes. Throw some vegetables in the pan, crack two eggs, add some smoked salmon, and top it off with avocado. Delicious fat.
- Sleep heals all hangovers. So alternate Netflix with a nap and dive into bed early tonight. Tomorrow the world will look a lot cozier. And fresher, especially that.
