This is what happened to Barbie
Now I must honestly admit that I always find this kind of news a bit sleazy, but still, we all want to talk about it for a moment. Samantha de Jong. Last week taken to the hospital. Reason? At that time unknown, but the red/white ribbons around the house did show that things were not going well in Barbie's home.
Of course, everyone starts to guess and you wonder aloud to your colleagues what on earth could have happened. A nervous breakdown? Did she do something strange in a fit of madness? Intense argument with a (ex-)friend?
Last night, the answer came from manager Jake Hampel: Samantha lost consciousness in her home due to excessive drug use. At this moment, she is doing reasonably well and continues her recovery in a specialized clinic. The kids are being taken care of by ex Michael, and further, it is requested that the reality star be given peace during her recovery.
Then the critics come. It would be ‘the fault’ of the television networks. They would have ‘broken’ Barbie with the endless reality shows. That girl should be protected from herself. There should be more discussion about the media's responsibility for participants in reality shows. RTL agrees with this quite a bit, they said yesterday in a statement. “We are currently in contact with the family and have offered them our help. We hope that Samantha and the family get the peace they need to focus on her recovery. Of course, we wish Samantha all the strength in that.”
