This is what you think as a bride exactly one week before the wedding
Do you know what the most beautiful and the craziest thing about life is? Time.
You think you have a whole year to plan everything for the big romantic day. A year, that feels like an eternity. Four seasons. Twelve months. Come on, take it easy. But then that whole immense year is over. Flew by. Where did it go? I honestly don't know. It's time, I can't avoid it anymore, I can't deny it. That engagement feels like it was just a month ago, but no. P is the time.
The final preparations are being made – because oops, I almost forgot to score some sexy lingerie for our wedding night – and then we go for it. From a year with 52 weeks back to one. Just a few days before I walk with my daddy on my arm towards my blood-nervous boyfriend in a suit. With a hundred seventy pairs of eyes looking at us, okay, no panic further, alright.
This is what you think anyway when you're getting married in a week:.
This is it. In terms of men. Forever. That sounds a bit negative but that's just how it is. For a moment you think back to your single years in the pub, when kissing usually happened at the bar. When flirting took up your Friday night and you talked with friends about the penis of this one and the penis of that one. Now it’s about name cards for the chairs at the ceremony, just to name something.
- It all becomes so serious. Suddenly I'm 'wife of'. Oh my god, am I not way too young for that? Can I even do that? Do you need to be able to do something special for that?.
- Don't forget to buy a sexy lingerie set for the honeymoon. Quite charming.
- My mother surely won't forget to bring my shoes, along with my dress, right? Just watch, I'll end up standing there in my sneakers.
- Also don't forget: I still have to write romantic wedding vows. What we are going to say to each other just before we sign. What do you say to someone who knows you love him and that he is the world to you? I feel extra pressure as a writer, by the way. So that will be a last-minute case, with help lines being called in.
- Oh yes, that signing: let's score some golden pens. That sounds nice.
- It feels a bit like a new start, this phase in our lives. What on earth are we going to have as a big project after the wedding? Time for new steps, right? Otherwise, we might fall into a black hole? Yes, kids, of course. That’s possible. But that brings me back to point two: am I not way too young for that?.
- Or moving out of the big city? To a small village. With a local supermarket. What am I saying now? No! Amsterdam! That can't be. Our life is Amsterdam. Are you crazy? I'm staying in that Pijp.
- But yes, this house... A bit cramped maybe. And a bit more green around would be nice eventually, right?.
- Can I then have a puppy if I move? Yes. That seems like a good first project after the wedding. I'm definitely not too young for that, I know that for sure.
- Oh yes, time. It's a treacherous thing. In a year I'll be crying again when I see the photos from the wedding, just watch. Crazy idea. And yet especially beautiful.
