This is why you should watch the same series with colleagues

5 compelling, hard reasons

2 women laughing on the street

We were completely into The Handmaid’s Tale here at the editorial office. Except for yours truly. I wasn't into it and I was so far removed from the rest that I could never catch up. But I did feel like an outcast. They were messaging as if their lives depended on it. But now we all watch I Know Who You Are and The Affair, so I’m back in the group. Watching together is a must and here’s why.

1. The aftertalk

That it was quite strange that the missing Anna was pregnant by her foster brother. And how weird was that breakfast with Daniel Elias? That he had the honeyloops in his hands and put them back when he heard his daughter coming? Those kinds of things. Talking together and gaining insights. Or at least making an attempt.

2. Inside jokes

Lilian and I are completely into The Affair and can laugh hard together at the scene where Helen Solloway leaves the hairdresser in a state (having enjoyed a bit too many glasses and indulged a bit too eagerly in marijuana) with the aluminum foil still in for the highlights. One thing leads to another and eventually she crashes three cars and gets arrested by the police. In the following scenes, you see the proper version of Helen, but with intensely white, bleached strands in her black hair. We can laugh really hard about that.

3. Relating the series to everyday life

Suppose someone has an affair, then you can say that it all seemed particularly exciting with Noah and Alison until they formed a couple themselves and Noah got caught up with Eden, his editor. Lesson learned that an affair brings nothing because before you know it, you’re in the same situation with that person. Lesson learned two: don’t become a mom and keep it exciting. All learned from Noah and Alison.

4. Silence is understood

Our editorial app is used quite often. But if you just mention that your binge alarm has gone off and you log out for a bit, everyone understands.

5. Watching together is the best idea

This especially applies to the good old linear television. Knowing that we are all ready at the same time for IWWJB (I Know Who You Are) is just really cozy. And if you really can’t hold it anymore, you can share theories via the app.
