Three toasties to survive your hangover
And, girlfriend? Awake? Then the chance is very high that you are stuck with a big fat hangover. Skip the McDonald's and stay away from the local shawarma vendor. You want these good old toasties in your pan. With extra cheese and a generous dollop of mayo. Bet you'll feel better?
Turkey – cheddar – caramelized onion
- 6 slices of white sourdough bread
- 3 slices of roasted turkey breast
- 6 slices of Gruyère cheese
- 1 onion, sliced into rings
- 3 leaves of fresh sage
- splash of balsamic
- of butter
- arugula
- salt and pepper
1. Sauté the onion in butter until it turns brown. Add a splash of balsamic so the onion caramelizes.
2. Top half of the slices of bread with cheese, turkey breast, cheddar, sage leaves, and some pepper and salt.
3. Place a slice of bread on each sandwich.
4. Heat a large frying pan with some butter and fry the toasties until golden brown on both sides.
5. Serve with some arugula.
BLT toastie
- 4 thick slices of sourdough bread
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp tomato pesto
- 4 slices of aged cheese
- handful of baby spinach
- 4 slices of crispy bacon
- 1 clove of garlic
- tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
1. Heat some oil in a pan, chop the garlic finely and briefly sauté it with the honey. Remove from heat.
2. Butter one side of the slices of bread.
3. Spread the unbuttered side with pesto, cheese, spinach, and bacon, finishing with another slice of cheese and top with a slice of bread.
4. Grill the toasties in a hot grill pan.
5. Serve with mayonnaise.
Ham-cheese deluxe
- 4 slices of white bread
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 slices of cheddar cheese
- ball of mozzarella, chopped
- 4 slices of ham
- 4 thin slices of pickle
- mayonnaise
1. Top two slices of bread with mustard, cheddar, ham, pickle, mozzarella, and finish with the remaining slices of bread.
2. Heat a grill pan and grill both toasties until they turn golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
3. Serve with mayonnaise.
