Hangover? This is how you survive Monday

Monday morning, it's that time again. With a pounding head, you're sitting behind your laptop. Phew, the weekend was once again a bit too fun. Did you spend the last two days in a tent at a deserted festival site or was the pile of empty wine bottles on the counter this morning a bit on the long side? Then there's a good chance you'll need to recover today. And believe me, that's not going to happen while enjoying a serving of fries with war sauce during lunch or a restorative bloody mary at breakfast. With these 11 tips, you'll survive Monday and ensure that you wake up full of energy tomorrow.

1. Get moving

Get up an hour earlier and take a walk. This way, you kickstart your metabolism and burn some calories right away. Walking is also super trendy. Music in your ears, sneakers on your feet, and off you go.

2. Breakfast light and definitely don't skip it

Even if you've had a calorie-rich weekend, don't skip meals. Start your day with a large glass of green tea and a light breakfast. A bowl of low-fat yogurt (protein, so filling) with some blueberries and a handful of pumpkin seeds, for example. Pumpkin seeds are the richest source of magnesium you can get and help to get alcohol out of your system as quickly as possible.

3. Good fats

Even if your body is screaming for a greasy (and bad) snack, try not to give in. The reason your body is currently craving a fatty snack is that it desires restorative fats. Opt for good fats instead of artery-clogging cholesterol bombs. Olive oil is the key.

4. Whisk an egg

Make a well-filled vegetable omelet. Eggs are rich in the amino acid cysteine, which breaks down the toxins caused by the hangover in your liver.

5. Drink

Your bottle of water is your best friend today to restore your fluid balance. So make sure you have a bottle or jug of water in sight all day and keep it filled non-stop.

6. Take a walk

Today, have your lunch outside, my friend, while walking. A breath of fresh air will help you survive that afternoon slump. And move that afternoon snack outside as well.

7. Avoid coffee

No matter how much you need coffee, it's better to walk around the Nespresso machine today. Caffeine causes even more dehydration, and fluid is your best friend today. Still need something to give you that energy boost? Pour this into your glass instead.

8. Dine light

Try to eat a light meal so you don't have to go to bed with a full stomach. A salad with fish or a plate of stir-fried vegetables with grilled chicken, for example. This way, you get both the necessary vitamins and your proteins in.

9. Read

Keep the TV off and grab a book. Stimuli from the TV (or your iPad) create too much unrest in your head. Reading is relaxing and helps you fall asleep quickly.

10. Herbal tea

Have a cup of herbal tea before you go to sleep. Chamomile tea is often used to calm the stomach, but it also has a soothing effect when you're tense.

11. Sleep

Make sure to catch up on the lost hours from the weekend as soon as possible and dive into bed on time. Because rest is what your body (and mind) needs the most right now.
