I excel in scents. I can no longer name a favorite. They are like friends: one is extremely suitable for a good conversation, with the other you have to be ready for brawls and rats, and the third nourishes your intellectual self. Because in the summer I often feel more sand between my toes than solid ground (we are blessed with a beach house so I have my own version of Malibu Beach at one of the Dutch beaches), I collect beach scents. Beach by Bobbi Brown for example, which reminds her of her beach house in the US. Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford is a pleasure object just by the name alone, but when you smell it you want to stick a straw in it, it's that good. My latest acquisition is Beach Walk by Replica by Margiela. Margiela wants their scents to be an experience. Enter: Beach Walk. The bottle is a jewel in itself with a fabric label like you find in clothing with details about the scent. The fragrance description reads: ‘Sunkissed Salty Skin’ and it ‘originated’ in Calvi in 1972. Let that be exactly my birth year. Beach Walk and I, we make a good pair, this summer.
