One of my light favorite books is ‘Bergdorf Blondes’ by Plum Sykes. Plum is a Londoner but New York-based journalist who writes a lot for Vogue . With her British chic, she observes the New York rich. In ‘Bergdorf Blondes’ it was about the young heiresses, in ‘The Debutante Divorcée’ the heiresses are a bit older and divorced or on their way to getting divorced. You read about the so-called GWVW (Gorgeous West Village Wives), who have hair that shines so much you could see your reflection in it. And it's a bonus if they've styled it themselves.
You read about the hotels where they meet, The Mark, the Carlyle, what they order (mini-burgers from which you remove the bread and only eat the piece of meat – which is still too small to give a smurf a satisfied feeling) and where they shop.
Meanwhile, they treat each other to interior decorators and fly to Moscow for a party. I devour mine, so if you're in the mood for something light and entertaining... Buy this book.
