What is PDA?! And why is everyone talking about it?

PDA, I had no idea. Until Harry met Meghan, because suddenly the whole world was talking about it. As if we had been using the term for yeeears and we all understand what it is. I don't.

Especially for me and for you, if you also had to Google what the person means by PDA. Here it comes, the very first search result for ‘what is PDA‘: ’Kissing, holding hands, cuddling on a park bench: these are just some of the ways couples show their love for one another in front of others.“ PDA, public display of affection, actually means simply, making out in public. We used to just call it that and there was no fuss about making out in public, since Prince Harry started dating Meghan Markle everything has changed.

The PDA moments of the couple are even counted. How come the world is so obsessed with what the two do? Probably because they say nothing and thus we know nothing. A squeeze of the hand, a wink, a linked arm; everything is captured a hundred eighty thousand times and thus also analyzed. Suddenly Harry pulled his hand away and people thought the PDA days of the two were over. Until they suddenly kissed each other, in public. Can you imagine? Also, the lack of PDA from brother Will and sister-in-law Kate (and the whole royal family) is reason for even more fuss.

But suddenly we are all about PDA. About Kim and Kanye, Beyoncé and Jay-Z; if we’re not careful we might even throw in a PDA moment when it comes to our Max and Wim-Lex. Let’s just say it like it is. They kiss each other flat on the… mouth. Hold hands. Put a hand on each other’s back. They are in love, obviously. Isn’t it way too businesslike to dismiss it as PDA? They are just being affectionate. We really don’t need to beat around the bush.
