What we women think of our bodies
And how men see us
Trimming an upper arm in a photo, my closet filled with concealing black or hiding my fat roll behind a bag, I do it. Yo-yoing is not in my dictionary, because I am just permanently well-filled.
Honestly: I think I am my own biggest critic. I see that cheerfully waving upper arm, I pinch the love handles that peek just over my jeans, and if someone says something about those hefty calves, yes, I do that myself too. The only man in my life who ever dared to say something about the extra pounds I had collected was my grandpa. And grandpas are sweet and can actually do nothing wrong. My best friend told me that I had to go on a diet like crazy and to the gym, but that was because I was complaining non-stop and endlessly about my weight. By the way, these are the friends you need in your life.
But what is actually the ideal female body? I know what I find beautiful, but do you think so too? And am I the only one who can be so dissatisfied? LINDAnieuws and EenVandaag examined the issue. As the chance of going to the beach increases, for 1 in 3 women it is a reason to only eat salad and run to a gym. That percentage is actually higher than the number of women who are dissatisfied with their bodies, because that is only twenty percent of women. To really feel good in your skin, you need to pass 55, because that’s when people feel most satisfied with their bodies. And going to the beach with friends or vague acquaintances is a torment, because 41 percent of women find it horrifying to parade around in a bikini or swimsuit.
Let's switch to what men think. We’ve been arguing about this for years, but finally we have the answer. The average man finds the average woman the most beautiful. An average woman is, drumroll, the woman who has a bit of curves. They love natural breasts (three-quarters would react poorly to a breast enlargement), find lip fillers disgusting (91 percent to be exact), and only three percent go for a woman with a six-pack. The reverse is also true, because only six percent of us ladies choose a man with a six-pack. I don’t know if this is due to the chronic lack of six-packs or if we really don’t find it attractive.
Conclusion: don’t drive yourself crazy. We women are the harshest about ourselves and each other, but men just find those little fat rolls and natural breasts amazing. And the next time you shuffle along the beach, I suggest you do a butt bump with the women who are struggling with pareos or jogging towards the sea. Because we almost all feel that way.
