Why airplane mode works better than sleeping pills

Or almost, because since I put my phone in flight mode at night, I sleep like a rose. I have no experience with medicinal means to fall asleep, because actually, I am quite skilled at sleeping itself. But the flight mode on my phone does ensure that I sleep a lot better. Five reasons why you should try it too.

1. The button in your head switches off

By turning on flight mode, you literally log out for a moment. You no longer have to check the screen every nanosecond, because no notifications can come in. This makes you lie a bit more relaxed in bed.

2. Your bedroom doesn’t buzz

My friends have a different rhythm than I do, because babies. My dad only sleeps three hours a night (or that's what I suspect). May is already out for a walk with Monti at six in the morning, and Annabelle is still sipping a vino at one o'clock at night on a weekday. My point: only my love has about the same rhythm as I do, and that’s logical, because I live with him under one roof. As a result, my phone buzzes non-stop, but in flight mode, it doesn’t. Sleep is much more peaceful.

3. You discover that a good book exists

Just a little more scrolling through Insta, reading news on NU, and quickly adding those two tops to the cart at Zara. Before you know it, an hour has passed, during which your eyes have been glued to the screen. You sleep an hour less because of it, but you also sleep worse. The artificial light from a phone triggers your brain to stay awake, because light means being awake. Turn on flight mode before you get into bed, and suddenly you have time to read books. A book, yes, that then falls violently on your face as you doze off, what a pleasure. It feels like a vacation.

4. It’s a peaceful way to wake up

The alarm goes off. As you silence it, your eyes immediately dart to the red numbers next to the icons on your home screen. Twenty-one messages on WhatsApp, fifteen new emails, three DMs on Insta, and some flickering on Facebook. Stop, rewind, and do it again. The alarm goes off in flight mode, because then it just works. You turn it off, roll over once more, and shuffle towards the shower after the snooze. Freshly washed, you join for breakfast, a few bites of granola and a coffee. And only after that do you turn it on. You wake up very differently.

5. You miss nothing

Maybe a selfie from Kim Kardashian with a gigantic backside or an update from your sister who is overseas. A message from the gym teacher that you can also come half an hour later. But other than that? Really almost nothing that can’t wait for a night’s sleep.

Hey, good night and especially: sleep well.

P.S..: If you suddenly start doing other things in the bedroom, you should actually turn on the light.

P.P.S.: This is the relaxed way to wake up, just believe me.
