Why you should never skip Eindhoven again
When one thinks of a weekend getaway in their own country, people quickly choose one of the Randstad cities or Maastricht, while we have so many other beautiful cities that are absolutely worth a weekend trip. Now I had to go to Eindhoven for work and immediately seized the opportunity to take the little one and my husband along for a minibreak. I would like to share with you some nice spots I discovered and one thing is certain: this was definitely not our last trip to Eindhoven.
To sleep
I always love smaller and more personal boutique hotels. Through I Am Reservations, I usually find the nicest and most original spots, and that's how I ended up at the Inntel Art hotel. The hotel is located in the monumental Philips Light Tower and the rooms are spacious and designed with a lot of flair.
The NH Hotel feels a bit more like a business hotel, but it is also a very nice place to stay. Plus: the Vane Skybar in the hotel is a must for a cocktail in the evening with a view over the entire city. Both hotels are super central, so after a nice shopping session or a night out, you can literally roll into bed.
To shop
The big advantage of Instagram is that you immediately get sent the nicest insider spots. I found out that a ‘cup’ at Denf Coffee is a must, where they roast their own coffee. Kleine Berg is my favorite street for nice boutiques like 2Balou, Minitials, and the cool second-hand design store Second Luxury.
To eat
If there's one thing you can do well in Eindhoven, it's culinary enjoyment. We were really surprised by the number of nice restaurants we came across. Valenzia serves a mix of original Spanish and Asian bites, and I really love the shared dining principle. Otis and I were fans of the roasted eggplant in Ponzus sauce.
For a truly culinary evening, you must reserve at Zarzo; I haven't eaten this well in ages. No wonder they have been awarded a Michelin star. I watched in amazement at the well-oiled (open) kitchen that creates one culinary dish after another. The presentation at the table of each course makes you want to film everything. Be sure to take the wine subscription, as they are known for their fantastic wine-and-food combinations. My mouth waters just thinking about it...
