Why you sweat more than they do
Soaked, I walked out of the yoga room. That a class of hot yoga, uh, yes, would be hot, I had prepared for, but that I would be soaked to my underwear, no one had told me beforehand. yoga And while I was leaving, there were also girls walking out with just a handful of wet spots under their armpits.…
Do you always have to have a towel ready when you hit the 10k on the treadmill while your neighbor walks by smiling with her hair perfectly styled? That might just have something to do with this.
1. The number of glands in your body
A person has between two and five million sweat glands. That many? Yep. If you belong to that five million, you probably sweat more than someone who has fewer sweat glands.
2. The speed at which you get warm
Sweating is a way to cool your body down. If you are sensitive to heat and exercise intensely, that can cause you to sweat more than someone who trains at a calmer pace.
3. Your gender
Although women generally have more sweat glands, men sweat more. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that as a woman you won't sweat more than that nice dude next to you in the squat rack.
4. The fabric of your sports outfit
Synthetic clothing does not dissipate your body heat as well as a natural material, which means you will get wet armpits faster. So think twice next time you toss that cheap but oh-so-cute sports top into your cart.
5. Your fitness level
Just because you sweat more than that fit chick next to you at your boot camp class, doesn't mean she has a better fitness level than you. If you are fit, your body will start sweating sooner to keep your body temperature low. If your fitness level is not good, you might start sweating quickly, but in that case, it will be due to the effort and not the cooling.
6. Your habits
Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol can make you sweat more. Another reason to toss that pack of cigarettes in the trash.
7. Hyperhidrosis
Do you often experience sweating attacks without exerting yourself much? Then you might have hyperhidrosis. People with this condition suffer from excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis can be diagnosed by your doctor, who can discuss treatment options with you.
Do you, like me, often walk out of the gym soaking wet? There's little you can do about those drops, but you do have control over the smell. Garlic, onions, and spices can cause unpleasant odors, and that bottle of wine can also be a culprit. After all, you sweat what you eat. But think not only about your diet but also about what you wear to the gym. Avoid that cheap nylon top and always wear cotton socks. And yes, a good deodorant is your best friend.
