Women who wear a lot of makeup earn a higher salary
If you're on the hunt for a raise, you better not forget your lipstick. Because makeup matters in the workplace.
You might not have expected it, but... a quick swipe of mascara pays off. Research shows that women who wear a lot or at least visible makeup earn a higher salary than others. To conclude this, 14,000 women were monitored and their pay slips were examined. The scientists discovered a link between makeup and salary, which may also relate to the fact that more vain and often more attractive people care more about makeup and thus earn more.
More is more
Are you still following? It has already been proven that more attractive people are allowed to add more money to their bank accounts than their slightly less attractive colleagues. And more attractive people often care more about their appearance, and therefore apply more makeup. So: more makeup makes you more attractive and leads to a higher salary, and being more attractive makes you more vain, which leads to applying more makeup and thus earning more money. There are many ways to Rome, that idea. Of course, attractiveness is something that is difficult to measure, but with a good layer of makeup, you can turn a sad little sheep into a sexy beast. So, yeah, it's not entirely surprising that this is interconnected. And that your colleagues always have those lovely red lips, that doesn't surprise you anymore.
What is remarkable? As is the case with very few things: more is indeed better in this case. According to scientists, the more makeup you apply to your face in the morning, the higher your salary is. The less you apply and the less you care about your looks, the more detrimental it is for you. At least, for your monthly figures in your account, that is. You can still be very happy, of course. And if you don't care much about your appearance, then you also don't want a new Chanel on your arm. That also saves some money.
I will never look at my eyeliner the same way again, that's for sure.
