4 verborgen parels voor dat voorjaarstripje

Kiki

Trust me, nothing works better to kick that January dip out the door than booking a new trip. Where are we going? How about a city that you don’t have to share with hundreds of tourists? Sounds like a plan? Great. These hidden gems in Europe can be at the top of your bucket list.

1. Zagreb, Croatia

Hi, new kid on the block. Zagreb has grown from a ‘stopover destination’ to a real travel destination. The charming city has red roofs and is located by the Sava river. Think of cobblestone streets, boutiques, studios, and cafes filled with music. Oh, and if you decide to book that city trip, combine it with a day trip to Plitvice National Park (with 400 waterfalls!). Need I say more?

2. Valletta, Malta

The ideal destination for a slightly longer city trip and easy to combine if you feel like hitting the beach. The city is small but bursting with culture. Forts, church domes, knightly stuff; the surroundings almost remind you of Game of Thrones.

3. Braga, Portugal

In some cities, you almost wonder why it’s not crowded. Braga is one of those. The student city is filled with historic cathedrals and elegant architecture and is rightly called ‘the Rome of Portugal’. Also nice that all the little alleys are only accessible to pedestrians.

4. Bari, Puglia, Italy

Bari is a lovely port city, especially if you’re not a fan of mass tourism. The old town, called Bari Vecchia, is a photogenic maze full of small alleys and churches. Nice side note: it’s almost always nice weather there and well, May can give you about a hundred reasons to go to Puglia, as she’s been going there for about twelve years. I say: book that trip.
