5 golden rules when sending a ‘Tag’

‘Kiek, can you send me a Tikkie?’ Until two years ago, it was completely unknown in the Netherlands, but now it is becoming a real verb. Now I must say that I am not very good at Tikkie. I am that person who easily orders 90 euros worth of fresh juices for the editorial team and then writes nothing down, after which I think: hmm, everyone had something different. And some much more than others. How on earth am I going to find out who I still need to send what to? It's complicated. Therefore, time for some rules. Yes, also for yourself, Kiek.
Rule 1: seems logical to me, dear people, but I’ll drop it anyway: you only send a Tikkie when this has been clearly agreed upon in advance. No one is waiting for an unexpected payment request. Just had a coffee with a friend? Then it’s really weird to suddenly receive a Tikkie.
Rule 2: you send that Tikkie within 24 hours if you have fronted something. Yes, I usually do that, but with the juices it went a bit wrong. But let it be a lesson: always do it immediately. Or at least within 48 hours. It’s super annoying if you suddenly say three weeks later: ‘Guys, do you remember when and when?’
Rule 3: you ask for the exact amount back. Rounding up is very 2015 and also a bit silly.
Rule 4: don’t complain about different amounts in restaurants. ‘Yes, but she had a starter and I didn’t. And I only had two drinks.‘ Brrr. I get the shivers from this kind of people. If you go out to eat and one person is so kind to front the total amount for the group, then the final amount is divided by the number of diners. Done.
Rule 5: you pay that Tikkie immediately. Or at least within a maximum of a week. Because despite the fact that Tikkie has a handy tool that allows you to see who has and hasn’t paid, it’s annoying for the person who fronted the money to have to check that all the time. It’s also a bit based on good faith. If you see that someone sends you a payment request, click on it immediately and pay. It literally takes ten seconds and saves a lot of awkward faces.
Happy tikkings!
