Addiction Alert: The Society on Netflix

The Society netflix

Just a throwback to the past: have you happened to see the movie Lord Of The Flies or read the book of the same name? I found both to be highly recommended (by the way, there are two movies; I have only seen the ‘newest’ one from 1990) and also very unsettling. Was this also your cup of tea or do you have no idea what I'm talking about and do you enjoy a series full of chaos and anarchy that is also quite addictive? Then you want to check out The Society starting May 10 on Netflix. The trailer just dropped and guys, it looks great, you know. That Billie Eilish vibe underneath (who by the way conquered the stage at Coachella this year, and how)…

The trailer doesn't give much away yet, but the plot is clear. All people over 21 have disappeared without a trace (the ‘why’ of that is not really clear yet), which prompts the teenagers to start a new society. And that is also the similarity with Lord Of The Flies; that was also the task there. And just like there, it doesn't go smoothly at all and the kids turn into a bunch of anarchistic, chaotic, and yes, also violent group in no time.

In The Society, the trailer shows that one Cassandra crowns herself as the new Queen and that this doesn't sit well with everyone. And that also puts many people in danger. Well, when it comes to power, it doesn't always bring out the best in people, that's clear. In that respect, there is definitely a Game Of Thrones vibe present. With absolutely less incest, but you can hardly top that. And with names that are a bit easier to pronounce (I don't have much with Game Of Thrones, that should be clear), also very handy.

The Society takes place in a (former) prosperous American town called West Ham. In the trailer, they are looking for what is happening outside this town, but they only encounter broken roads and forests. We still have to wait for the reason why everything is cut off from this town and whether that is the case throughout the country. Fortunately, May 10 can be counted down on two hands and that is very good news.

Self-crowned Queen Cassandra asks in the trailer: ‘Do you want chaos?’ And I can only say: ‘Bring. It. On.’
