Best news of the day: The Kissing Booth is getting a sequel

It's mid-February and it feels like spring has begun, you can put your sunglasses back on and the winter coat can be stored away again, and it's also Friday. For me, this is already a great day, but I'm going to make it even better for you. Yes, I can tell you that The Kissing Booth is getting a sequel to Netflix. Besides To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (waiting for a sequel to that is also just a matter of time), this was the Netflix movie hit of last year. I can tell you that I've seen it about six or seven times. A bit exaggerated maybe, definitely, but it's nice that I know this movie from start to finish so I can refresh your memory on what made this movie so fun.
It was of course about Elle (Joey King) who has been BFF with Lee her whole life. And in that friendship, they established a number of rules. Cute rules like ‘it doesn't matter how mad you are at the other person, you have to forgive them if they give you ice cream’. And honestly, the world would be a little better if everyone followed that rule. Everyone a little thicker, that’s true. Or that people still stay passively-aggressively mad and stuff their enemy with Magnums (even if they get a vegan variant, it won't really be calorie-light, right?) and Ben & Jerry’s. Maybe not such a good idea after all.
But the most important rule is that family members are off-limits when it comes to romance. Now I have to make a critical note here, because Lee has it easy. He just doesn't want Elle to date his brother, which is understandable in a way, but Elle only has a little brother and Lee clearly likes women. So, um... that rule has been a bit awkward from the start on Elle's part. Especially awkward since Lee's brother Noah is also handsome and popular and Elle has secretly been in love with him for years. When Elle and Lee have to organize an activity for their carnival at school, they decide to do a kissing booth. But it only becomes a success when the popular students join in and, surprise, surprise, eventually Elle and Noah kiss there.
And Noah and Elle are too cute in this movie. I don't know if it's because of the huge height difference (I think Noah is over two heads taller), but they look good together. Now the chemistry between Noah and Elle can also spark off the screen because they were actually in a relationship in real life. Although that relationship seems to be over, the entire original cast is returning for the sequel, so I'm curious how that will go in part 2. Hopefully, things will be good again between those two because I found them too cute together.
But The Kissing Booth was also so fun because of the friendship between Elle and Lee. At the end, they dance a bit cheesy together on the Dance Mat in the Arcade hall, but it works just right in this movie. The fun part is that they have really become BFFs in real life and you can really see that connection in the film. Definitely check out Joey King's Instagram (@joeyking), because he often appears there too.
And what will part 2 be about? The first film ended with Noah going to university but he and Elle were still madly in love. So there's a good chance that part 2 will continue from there. But how? No idea. Maybe Noah has to organize an activity for his student corps and organizes a kissing booth? They have to use that wooden kissing booth somewhere again, I think. Unfortunately, I still have to keep you in the dark about a release date, which by the way has been announced for another Netflix favorite The Handmaid's Tale .
I might be making it sound like this is an Oscar-worthy film and let's be honest: it's not, but it is very enjoyable to watch and I really have a crush on the three main characters. And a nice feel-good movie without too much fuss is also quite nice every now and then. Did I make your Friday a little better? I hope so. If you need something extra, definitely check out the announcement with Elle and Lee below.
