Burger King is coming out with a ‘frikandel speciaal’ burger’

Look, you have people who are disgusted by the name alone, and you have people who think: well, I’m actually quite in the mood for that. But you can eat a frikandel speciaal at Burger King.

And that is quite special (pun intended), because Burger King is of course American. And this is a Dutch snack. You don’t get a frikandel like you know it, elongated, fried and thin, but it comes in a square shape and tastes pretty much the same. As good as the same, because the burger is not fried but grilled.

If you want to order it, definitely call out the name FreaKINGdel Burger, because that’s what it’s called. And the fact that the burger is already popular is perhaps not entirely surprising, because everyone is curious one way or another. Whether you feel nauseous at the thought or not: you still want to know what it tastes like. Whether it resembles the well-known frikandel that you secretly order at the snack bar when no one is watching. Or whether it the calories are worth it.

The plan of the fast-food chain is not crazy at all, because 600 million frikandellen are eaten in our country every year. So you’re definitely not the only one indulging in a snack like this. Just googling to see if I happen to be near a Burger King on my way home. In Amsterdam, I have plenty of choices, it turns out. Definitely not today, no, no, it’s Monday, I’m being good with salad and crackers. But you never know when I might want to know this. Is it already the weekend?
