Trouble at Heel Holland Bakt

Heel Holland Bakt

Oh oh, there's a lot going on again at Heel Holland Bakt. Fingers are being pointed, venom is spewed on Twitter, and the whole thing is even called a rigged game. What's happening? Contestant Maroeska is getting the full brunt. Why? It basically comes down to the fact that she, uh, bakes too well for the show. The irony.

Only non-professional bakers participate in the program, but it turns out that for a hobby baker, she really ties everything together remarkably well. This week, Maroeska blew the jury away again with her creative dishes and won the title of ‘Master Baker of the Week’ three times. And now the viewers are angry. They banish her to the Devil's Island of Bakersland. Because if there's one thing we don't like, it's predictable television and unequal opportunities.

But isn't that secretly the case in every elimination program? Do top athletes with their winner mentality and endurance not have a slight advantage when they participate in Robinson? Doesn't a professional singer with studio experience move ten times faster to the live final of The Voice of Holland? That's what I thought. Actually, we just don't like it when someone sticks their head above the parapet. Then we start mowing the lawn. In the end, it may be that 60-year-old Maroeska has a lot of experience, but she is also up against youngsters who may have very different, innovative techniques. So Maroes, if I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about all that criticism. Keep baking. Go get them, tiger.
