Hipper than the burn-out: say hi to the bore-out

Do you have zero point zero energy in the morning and do you already fall asleep at the thought of another day full of meetings ahead? It occurs almost as often as burn-out, but almost no one knows about it: the bore-out.
In other words: you are incredibly bored. To the point of being severe.
Sounds innocent, but it makes people incredibly depressed. And tired. And listless. At least 15 percent of people say they are extremely bored at work. You no longer feel like working because you know the whole routine. As a result, you hardly get anything meaningful done. You are no longer stimulated and therefore hardly push your boundaries. A burn-out is the opposite of a bore-out: you have actually pushed your boundaries for too long. You come home exhausted from both variants. It's not easy either, to work a bit decently in 2019. Too much stress is not good, but having too little to do is also a disaster.
But how do you get rid of it? Do you have to switch jobs immediately if you feel like this week resembles a week from three years ago? No. But you do need to take action. And quickly too. Hop. This is how you recover from a bore-out: Think about what is possible if you turn things around. What kind of work will you do? Can this be done in your current job? Can you start this alongside your current job? Does the thought of it alone make you happy? Write it down. Now. The key is: do.
Then make a more concrete plan: how are you going to work towards this goal from today? What can you do right now to take the first step?
- Set small goals: if you succeed in a small improvement, you are more motivated to continue. Plan, make a list.
- Keep learning something: even if you know what you want to do, you can always look at whom you can learn from. Find a role model, book a course, a training, something. That stimulates right away.
- Take the first step: don't wait longer than 24 hours to make that move in the right direction towards your dream job, towards that dream life. Otherwise, you'll never do it and next week you'll be sulking in the same rut.
- bored girl.
- You are no longer stimulated and therefore hardly push your boundaries. A burn-out is the opposite of a bore-out: you have actually pushed your boundaries for too long.
