Call me crazy, but for me, the holiday anticipation really begins when I find a scent that pulls me to the destination as soon as I twist the cap off the bottle. Sel Marin by James Heeley was once my absolute summer fragrance, until my beloved pointed out that I smelled a bit like a mix of seaweed and mussels. That was not quite the intention. But open the cabinet in my bathroom and you'll find a selection of holiday perfumes. Every trip deserves one, if only because a scent captures the memory of that holiday better than the most beautiful photo book. Since you might not have time to search for the perfect scent for your destination, I've done that for you. And no, it wasn't difficult; I just had to go to Otentic Perfumes (an eighth-generation perfume house from Grasse, you won't find better or more exclusive) because they have so many diverse scents that it was really a pomme-oeuf. In the autumn, you actually want to ride in a sleek little cart through a hilly landscape. Channel your inner The Holiday, sniff around in a forest, buy a big scarf, and plop down in front of a fireplace with a firm glass of red wine. If that's what's on your holiday list, then I know for sure that a Grasslands scent will make you happy. Think grass, warm earth, dry wood, flowers, and spicy herbs in the mix.
Sweden, Norway, Aspen
Are you heading towards mountains and forests? Then Arborath simply must go in the suitcase. Spray a little on your pillow and you'll surely dream of leather, sandalwood, and musk. A bit of patchouli for some spice and warmth, and you're already there before you've even left your house. Truly the scent for the dark days in a wooden house with tea, chocolate, and lots of books.
City trip Paris
Just a little diagonal from Boulevard Saint-Germain via Rue Cambon to Le Marais? One thing that prevails at any time and in any ‘quartier’ is elegance. This perfume, Elegantia, is powdery, ambitious, strong, and self-assured, loves luxury, and has flair. The Parisienne, in short. You want it!
