Dear Kaj, this is for you
He conquered his dream job, dream woman, and well, actually all our hearts. If there is anyone we can't get around this year, it's Kaj Gorgels. But what makes this sympathetic bundle of energy the talent of the moment?
The majority of the Netherlands gets to know the Rotterdam joker after his participation in the ratings hit Expeditie Robinson, where he has all the laughs on his side with his brilliant jungle quotes. But those who have been following Kaj for longer know that Robinson is just the tip of the iceberg. If you keep an eye on YouTube, you’ve actually known Kaj for much longer. In 2012, he starts his own channel ‘Kajs Typetjes’, which is immediately a huge hit. There’s something about that foul-mouthed Rotterdammer that makes you embrace him.
They notice this at Veronica as well, where Kaj starts working in 2015. TotoNederland follows, and eventually, the talent does not go unnoticed at RTL, who rolls out the red carpet for him at youth channel Concentrate. But the biggest television debut is in 2017. He co-hosts the show SOS: Mijn Vakantie Is Een Hel with John Williams and comes in second at Robinson. In the public's heart, perhaps first.
Kaj captivates you. Not only virtually but also in real life (yes, I can know, I lay next to him in bed). He is handsome, but not intimidatingly beautiful. He has humor, but makes himself more ridiculous than others. He is honestly unfiltered, something we all wish we could be more.
I think Kaj's great success lies in the fact that he doesn't feel unreachable. Through the many contacts with his followers and filming his life, it really feels like you know him. He is ‘just‘ the boy next door. Too down-to-earth to get carried away.
No matter how great the successes are, he remains himself, which makes both men and women find him likable. If you achieve that, you are in the TV world. Tjakka. Everyone wants a guest like Kaj as a neighbor. Or as a colleague. Or as a family member. Everyone dares to introduce Kaj to their mother as the new flame. Never a dull moment with Mister Gorgels in your life. You'll get stomach pain from laughing. You will.
Dear Kaj, you are going like crazy. I think the Netherlands has been waiting for a ‘character’ like you for a long time. I remember we talked about relationships and you said you found it difficult to commit. That your career was ‘taking precedence for now’ and yes, presenting Robinson was a big dream for ‘someday’. Now you are both in love and presenting the most beautiful program on Dutch television. Dude, it’s a good time to be alive.
I wish it for you, friend, hence this little ode to you. And now for god's sake, don’t get carried away, mate, because then I’ll send you heels. Then you’ll squeak differently.
