Everything you need to know about the latest Hollywood scandal

Oh, Hollywood, you never cease to entertain me. And just when it seems to calm down a bit, another unexpected scandal pops up. In this case, actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are involved (for now, you never know what details might still come out). Those names might not ring a bell immediately, but you definitely know their characters. Felicity played Lynette Scavo for many years in Desperate Housewives and Lori Loughlin played the holier-than-thou Aunt Becky in Full House and the reboot Fuller House. She was clearly not such a good girl in real life, as it turns out she paid about $500,000 to get both daughters into the prestigious University of Southern California This action was something we would have expected more from Lynette Scavo; apparently, she is just as desperate in real life as we saw her in the series.
Both actresses were taken from their beds by the police, with Felicity Huffman being handcuffed and taken away, spending a night in jail. She reportedly paid a hefty sum for someone to check her daughters' admission test answers – before they were submitted, that is. Not exactly classy, ladies.
Both of Lori's daughters got into the University of Southern California due to their outstanding athletic performances and involvement in the rowing team. Small but very important detail: neither girl has ever rowed a day in their lives. And at USC, they kept it that way. I would think that if you get into your dream university thanks to $500,000 and a big lie, you would at least try a bit harder not to get caught.
From Instagram influencer to fake university drop-out… What is actually quite enjoyable to watch afterwards are the YouTube videos of Loughlin's youngest daughter, Olivia Jade. She was busy becoming a well-known YouTuber and Insta girl and discusses in a Q&A video how she combines this busy influencer life with studying at such a demanding university (and getting in). She starts a full plea with words like ‘hard work’, ‘if you really want something, you get it’, and that ‘she has to work really hard for this ’’, which now comes across as quite comical. But hey, she could definitely start a career as an actress. She might need it, as every sponsorship deal she had has dropped her like a hot potato. She was supposed to launch her own makeup line with Sephora, but they quickly removed everything from the website and pulled the products. I secretly enjoyed that.
So yes, the whole ‘if I can make it here, I can make it anywhere’ doesn’t seem to apply in the US. As long as your parents put down money, you can get your master's at an Ivy League by just batting your eyelashes a bit. So to be honest: I’m glad this has come to light. It is said that the Huffman and Loughlin families have committed career suicide with this action, and I fear that for them as well. Their own fault, big time. Maybe their spots at that dream university will be given to someone who really wants it and has worked hard for it. As it should be.
