Happy New Year: why September is the month to make a promotion

Do you feel it too? There’s a kind of tingle in the air. It’s actually a perfect moment to pop that bottle of champagne and celebrate that ringing iPhone alarm.
Because September is a bit like the new New Year. The new Old & New. Do you get it? For your career, it’s the time of year to shine. Not in dark and dreary January, no way. Forget December 31 and that whole situation with counting down to midnight. That’s done. September is the new start. September is the time when you feel refreshed about work and, moreover, you’re back to work rested from vacations and summer sun. Just think about it: in January everyone is a bit winter-weary and people are in a winter slump. Because January, phew, it’s cold and that winter lasts quite a while. In September it’s still sunny, but thank god it’s no longer forty degrees. That doesn’t help with productivity.
Yet that summer has been good for you. In those sunny weeks full of cocktails and beach you’ve been able to think about how you want it all in your life and in your career – and you can use that now. For weeks you could ponder and daydream about what you really want to become later and that later starts right now. You’ve gained inspiration at that beach and you’re ready for it. Ready for that new step and perhaps even that step up. Promotion: here you are. This is your moment. You can handle that new job, you’re full of ideas about how it can be better and you have the energy for it thanks to the summer. And if that all doesn’t work out at the job you’re in now, you can always look for something new. This month is also a good time for that.
Research shows that there are twenty percent more job vacancies open in September than in August. Especially regarding entry-level positions, the supply in this month is large. This is because young companies know that many students have just graduated and are therefore looking for a job.
It feels like a new start and that’s the same for your manager or boss. They are looking for fresh talent, you are looking for a something new and better. Well, seize your opportunities, I would say. The month still has about eighteen days left.
