If Instagram says so: These are the 5 most popular beaches in Europe

You feel it too, right? I do too. It's almost over, that summer. Next week we have one last sunny revival, but I'm afraid that after that it will be over and done for good. So from now on it's packing bags and getting out of here if we want to walk outside without a jacket. Where are we going? To the beach of course.

Holidu investigated: These are the five beaches that raked in the most hashtags this summer on Insta.

1. Barceloneta: #845.003 – Barcelona, Spain

Well, this is the only real selfie queen of Instagram. Barcelona is the perfect ‘weekend getaway city’ because it's not far to fly and you have the combination of city and sea. And Spanish coziness, that too. Oh and, along this four-kilometer-long sandy beach, you can easily roll into that beach bar or club. Here you eat the tastiest tapas by the way.

2. Nissi Beach: #187.452 – Ayia Napa, Cyprus

Rocks, turquoise blue water, and the white beach: all the ingredients for an Insta-cliché in the making. And, if you're already taking photos, don't forget to bring that underwater camera for diving.

3. Playa del Inglés: #179.975 – Gran Canaria, Spain

A beloved beach among Instagrammers, because for most of the year this beach is in the sun. If you want a real Jasmine/Aladdin-like photo, the #maspalomasdunes are not far from the beach, just saying.

4. Terschelling: #178.358 – Netherlands

How nice! Dutch pride is also in the running. Terschelling is highly valued as an Instagram-worthy location and I understand why. Forty. Kilometers. Sandy beach. And of course, you also immediately take a picture at the #Brandaris, a.k.a. the oldest lighthouse in the Netherlands.

5. Norderney: #175.142 – Germany

Maybe you're thinking now: um, where? Norderney, yes. Also an island, but then in Germany and completely surrounded by fifteen kilometers of fine sandy beach. Stroll through the dunes or along the promenade and end the day at sunset with a good glass of white. And, if it were up to me, you'd just toss that phone aside, you get that.
