You know them, those couples that are made for each other. Who should never be apart because the universe just didn’t intend for these people to breathe, sleep, have sex, and live separately. Couples that make you think: sigh. For those couples, I introduce the section Couple Goals to the world, with today: John & Chrissy.

If there’s one A-list couple I’m in love with, it’s them. Thanks to their envy-inducing talents and charming, hilarious online personas (come on, are you following her on Twitter?) and adorable kids, they have skyrocketed to the upper echelons of Hollywood in no time. Time for an ode to their famous romance.

This is how they met

Chrissy and John first saw each other in 2007, on the set of his music video ‘Stereo’. The stunning model played his girlfriend in the video. She in lingerie for twelve hours, he fully suited up. The sparks were flying. After the shoot, they went to his hotel and ordered In-N-Out burgers. ‘I went to go say goodbye to him, to his hotel and we didn’t ever say goodbye that night.’ Ah gosh, the romance, people, the romance.

And this is how it almost ended…

Shortly after the success of ‘Stereo’, John got very busy with his tour. So busy that he put his career first and wanted to break up with Chrissy. What did she do? She didn’t let him go. In an interview with The Guardian, John recently said: ‘I was really stressed and busy. I was just like: I’d just be happier single right now, and she was like: no.’ When the interview came out, Chrissy shared the piece on Twitter, with the response underneath: ’11 years later, baby. I always joke, remember when you tried to break up with me? He’s like, Yes, sorry. Big mistake.’ Honestly: this woman is gold.

The two literally had a long-distance relationship for almost a year where everything went through texts and calls…

‘I fell in love with her over the phone because she is good with those 140 characters,’ said Legend. ‘At the beginning of our relationship we were texting a lot, and I started to see her sense of humor. We would talk on the phone, and I started to fall in love with how engaging and witty and funny she is.’

And then…

Chrissy did what most of us can’t. Despite being head over heels in love, she gave him his freedom. ‘I let him be himself for a while. The worst thing you can do is try to lock someone like that down early on, then have them think. There’s so much more out there. I played it cool for a long time. Never once did I ask: What are we? I was just happy to be with him.’ And that’s how John found out that he actually couldn’t live without her. Slowly but surely, they rolled into a relationship together. According to John, the two seemed to have such a deep connection that he wanted to propose to her.

And he eventually did

In true John Legend style, during a Christmas trip to the Maldives in 2011. Not with a long speech, but small and sweet, according to Chrissy. The couple married on September 14, 2013, at Lake Como in Italy. The place has always been very special to the couple. They first came here together in 2007 and also in the music video for ‘All of Me’, Chrissy and John can be seen together by the lake. ‘I wished here for the first time that I would stay with him for the rest of my life. That he would become the father of my children,’ said Chrissy.

And yes, that also happened

We are now two little sprouts later: daughter Luna and son Miles. And honestly: these are the most adorable babies you’ve ever seen. Meanwhile, he stars in the sweetest diaper commercial on earth, she’s going wild with her cookbooks, he sings serenades in her ear every morning, and she makes the world laugh with her sarcastic and ever-sharp social posts.

Come on, is there a cuter couple on earth? Don’t think so. John, Chrissy, if you’re looking for an adopted child: I’m available.
