James Corden does a banana split

david beckham in suit for blue wall

Maybe I was under a rock this week, but I missed this brilliant video of David Beckham. And everyone I told (you know me a bit: I have quite the evangelistic drive when it comes to sharing the fun things in life) didn't know it either, so I feel free to share it with you anyway.

Here's the thing.

David Beckham was to be honored by LA Galaxy, even to the point of a statue. For that occasion, David had been to the sculptor a few times, but this week it was finally happening. His parents came from England and Victoria would be there. A big moment for David. He was looking forward to it.

But then there was James Corden. Friend. At least back then. And James, well, he wanted to throw some sand in the engine. Or at least to leave David standing there with his spikes on the ground. So a video was edited with David's highlights. That time he just missed the goal, that time he got a yellow card and had to leave the field. David didn't quite understand it, but laughed politely. And oh yes, everyone called him Dave, which David finds dreadful.

Dave, I mean David, let it all slide off him because, well, it was all about that statue. He was curious about it, the rest, well, that was a misunderstanding. Before everyone arrived, he got to take a look at his statue. The statue that would shine forever in front of the LA Galaxy stadium, that everyone would remember this iconic player by. And that statue... was ugly. And we know how hard it is to make a statue of David Beckham look ugly. His arms were a quarter longer, his chin looked like a half moon, his eyes were crossed, and his butt... uh, well, you can see for yourself. In any case, not the derrière you would expect from a professional footballer.

David looks. Once more. He walks around the statue. What exactly has changed since he last saw the statue and that it doesn't look like him at all. And that this is a big deal for him. That he is glad his children are not coming today, they would be scared to death. Or terribly embarrassed. He walks on. What the boss of LA Galaxy thinks of it. Well, he thinks it's beautiful. Meanwhile, James Corden is starting to get a bit nervous. He starts giggling.

And then... well, just watch the video. Then you'll know if they are still friends.

Without spoiling, I can say one thing: hilarious.

By the way, by the way, by the way, read here about my encounter once with David Beckham. Yes, yes, it really happened.
