Kiki's Diet Diary: ‘It's finally time for pancakes!’

Hey cuties. I'm back. Look, there's a time for coming and going when it comes to columns. And the time to go is - you guessed it - here. Actually, I wanted to write a whole story about achieving your goals (and the fact that if you really want something, you can), but then suddenly an email popped in from my trainer Steve. A letter so comprehensive for the past three months that I actually think, Steve, that you should wrap up the project on Amayzine. So, take it away, my friend!

“Hey Kiek. Your program is over. And I must say: the weeks have flown by. In January, I met you for the first time at the Amayzine office. You smoked, drank, and snacked a lot. Dinner was generally ordered. I still remember so well that you called yourself ‘the horror’ of every personal trainer at the beginning. The only thing I thought? This is going to be a huge challenge, haha.

You wanted to make a change and decided to do this together with me and the team from Book Your Trainer. But working out so late in the evening and then taking the train home? Pfff. You found that quite a task at first. Furthermore, the conditions were that you stopped smoking, drinking alcohol, that you ate vegan, and you started weighing (yes, really) and preparing your food in containers. Admit it: it was all far outside your comfort zone. And yet you decided to do it.

In the first weeks, you came to training in loose T-shirts and were quite insecure. Can you still remember on the treadmill, your panic attack? You literally clung to my arm and looked like you were about to collapse, so I stopped the treadmill. I think it was just all very new. At first, you started with dry, boring salads. That was your idea of ‘vegan’. This changed over the weeks into delicious dishes, you even brought a container for me sometimes. Very creative! My favorite was the whole grain pasta salad with chestnut mushrooms and eggplant + the pieces of apricot that completed it. I was amazed. Even the presentation was on point, haha.

Weeks went by. I saw you grow. You lost the kilos and centimeters quickly. This suddenly changed your choice of clothing as well. You came walking in with new sneakers and colorful fitness outfits. But I also saw a lot of other bags on your arm. You said: ‘Steve, do you know how much MONEY I'm saving now that I don't smoke anymore and don't order food or go out to eat?! I'm spending that on a whole new wardrobe.’ I like!

Kiek, you worked really hard for this. You never canceled on me. You were always on time. You always logged your food. It wasn't always easy, and when I pushed you, you sometimes looked at me as if you could kill me, but here we are after twelve weeks. Your body has transformed. The best part for me was last week. I walked up to you during your warm-up (which you now do yourself) and you sent me away. ‘Don't you have something else to do, Steve? I'm on fire.’ You didn't need me for support and motivation. That was my own victory and the goal of our work.

Working result-oriented, working educationally, and creating independence. The hotel staff is now talking about ‘that fit chick’ that I train. Haha, Kiek, what an experience, right? It hasn't all come easy. We can laugh about it now. On to our next project! Super team!

P.S.: Oh and: you've been talking about pancakes and cheese soufflés for twelve weeks. Shall we go eat those very soon then? You deserve it!”
