Mays Bag College: ‘The’ Jérôme Dreyfuss

Because the question ‘which bag should I take’ often comes to me, I discuss a bag every week. Because the choice is huge and not everyone has the same taste, the same wish, and the same budget. Since I praised the Gabrielle last week, which is a bit higher in the price segment, I present a more affordable buddy this week: the Jérôme Dreyfuss.

Jérôme who?

A well-known term among fashionistas. Moreover, it is the bag du jour because it lets your inner Parisienne shine and you don't let your choices be determined by advertisements or logos. Jérôme Dreyfuss is the man behind Isabel Marant, and if you look at his ‘where’, you understand that they sleep under the same blanket. They share the same hippie-esque, bohemian, free, understated Parisian taste, with Jérôme often still having one foot in the seventies.

Always been a bag designer?

No way, not at all. Although Jérôme has always been active in ‘fashion’. He studied fashion in Paris, worked for John Galliano, and then jumped to a modeling agency. In between, he also worked for Hervé Leger and even created outfits for Michael Jackson for his album Invincible.

But tell me about those bags.

Well, here's the thing. His Parisian girlfriends were horrified by logomania and as a reaction only walked around with linen rags. Jérôme couldn't stand that, so he started his own bag line.

How do you recognize ‘a Dreyfuss’?

Well, they all have three small gold-colored dots on each side. Furthermore, every Dreyfuss has a small flashlight (Jérôme knows his regulars because we are of course always losing everything) and every bag has a name, because your bag is your buddy (or girlfriend) that can hang in your arms all day and go out with you. The names are actually names of real friends. If you scroll over his site with your mouse, the names of all models are called out by children's voices. Those are the friends of his son that he indeed has together with Isabel Marant.

How much does it cost?

Well, I find it incredibly reasonably priced. You can get a Dreyfuss starting from €375, and basically, it doesn't go much further than €1500.

Are you a fan?

Yes, I am totally team Jérôme, because he is one of the nicest guys in the fashion industry that I ever met.
