Must visit: Dune du Pyla

With the cart behind us, backpack on our shoulders, and trudging through those dunes in Zoutelande or Ouddorp. Never thought that ten years later I would undertake a real dune walk for fun, but here I am. So when I heard about the Dune du Pyla, I was almost in the car for a trip. It's just that France isn't on the agenda this year, because that's where the 107-meter-high dune lies, containing 60 million cubic meters of sand over a length of 3 kilometers and a width of 500 meters. You need to be in the Landes de Gascogne region, near Arcachon. From the dune, you have a view of the ocean and the French land. The dune probably gets its name from the word ‘pila’, which means hope or pile in the local dialect.
