Panic in the Nutella factory

Nutella jar on the table

Tell me it’s not true, tell me it’s NOT true. The largest Nutella factory in the world has been completely shut down since Tuesday. As in: the conveyor belt isn’t running, the jars remain empty, and no trucks filled with Nutella are hitting the road.

Quality issues are the reason for the closure of the factory. The factory is located in Villers-Écalles, France, and fills six hundred thousand jars of hazelnut spread per day. When the conveyor belt will start running again is unknown.

By the way, I just did some quick calculations. If Villers-Écalles accounts for a quarter of the world production, then the total world production is six hundred thousand times four. That means that two point four million jars of Nutella are made per day. Wow. Dude.

But I’m still going to swing by the supermarket later to stock up on my favorite spread. Just to be safe.
