Penn Badgley opens up about season 2 of YOU: this is what you want to know

It was one of my favorite series from last year and also my personal record when it comes to how-fast-can-I-watch-a-series. A questionable record, that it is, but the series YOU I really couldn't turn off. Penn Badgley: definitely fun. And apparently Penn Badgley as a creepy stalker is also worth watching. Who would have thought that, good old Dan from Gossip Girl. Well, not me.
The downside of YOU was (a downside that all good series have) that it had too few episodes. Or that we have to wait too long for season 2. Probably a combination of both. But: that second season is coming, thankfully, and mister Penn Badgley himself gives us some spoilers to pass the time. Thanks, Penn. What he conveniently forgot to mention is the release date of this second season. That would have been nice to know, but we still owe that to him. The words ‘coming soon‘ is all he says about it. Exciting, exciting.
Funny: he says that the second season will be a ‘Netflix version’. No idea what this exactly means? Me neither. But apparently it means that there will be more swearing, but, as Penn says: ‘Nothing that really goes too far.’ Okay, so Joe is going to be foul-mouthed. But we mainly want to know who the second Beck will be, and how Joe deals with Beck's death, and whether he gets away with it, that especially.
‘There is a flashback of Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the harsh reality of what he did to Beck.’ Our Penn said that to Entertainment Tonight. I'm always happy with a flashback, especially since I thought Elizabeth a.k.a. Beck was really good in this case. More fun than the ‘new’ Beck, if I'm being honest. But that might take some getting used to. Furthermore, he says about it: ‘In his mind, she isn't even dead. In his head, everyone is still alive, because the pain he feels – which they inflicted on him in his eyes – is still there.’ That sounds familiar, because we also encountered Candace a few times in some sort of flashback in season 1. If I may make a prediction, it is that the second season will be just a tad darker and more exciting. Looking forward to it.
Of course, we already knew that Victoria Pedretti will become his new obsession (she previously starred in Haunting of Hill House) and that she is a chef in LA. Joe had of course fled from New York City to the west coast. Interestingly, showrunner Sara Gamble explicitly states that the relationship between Joe and this new lady, Love, could only arise because he has experienced all these things with Beck. Okay? Can I conclude from this that he is going to bare his soul and tell this Love everything? And that she might also have a dark side?
Ooh, and lastly: from Shay Mitchell, who played Peach, we may not have heard the last of yet. Joe is getting hot under the collar because her parents are still busy with private detectives. Penn tells that there may still be evidence in her house that could get him caught. Clearly: it's going to be an eventful season number two. Can we have a few more episodes to cover all of this, maybe?
