People with multiple children live longer

Tessa with her 2 sons in a residential area

I had two children this year and according to science, that's a good thing. Because having multiple children would be good for your health.

It has everything to do with your DNA and that is quite complicated, but what it comes down to is that your cells age less quickly if you are the mother of more than one child. Moreover, during your pregnancy and right after, you produce a lot of the hormone estrogen. That acts as a powerful antioxidant that protects your cells against aging. The more often you have been pregnant and the more hormones your body has produced, the better. And so it holds: the more children, the better .

What is important according to scientists is social support. So getting a bit of help from your husband in raising the kids, so to speak. The more support you get, the happier you are. You have less stress because you feel that you are not alone and that you are doing it together. If you get help from outside, it is also less heavy for you as a mother. This way you can catch up on some sleep – and that also helps for good health.

Additionally, it won't surprise you that as a mother you remain fit without realizing it because you rarely sit still. Babies on your arm, toddlers crawling around the house, preschoolers running in circles in the garden: every phase has something. You are a lot more active than when you don't have children and you can just watch television quietly when you feel like it. Mothers among us know better. You know that you have a maximum of an hour a day for yourself, if you're lucky. You know that you barely have time to have dinner. Or to have breakfast. Rushing, racing: everything for the kids. Oh, don't worry, because now you know: you will reap the benefits later. Just remember that when you once again have bags under your eyes and wake up at half past four in the morning from a little cry.

Thanks, huh, Bodi and Daaf.
