SEX EDUCATION IS THE SERIES ON NETFLIX THAT YOU WANT TO SEE

Yes, Netflix has another hit on its hands. After YOU (which is getting a second season) and The Sinner, Sex Education is also a big hit. An estimated forty million households watched this series in the first four weeks, and that's certainly not bad at all. They thought so at Netflix's headquarters too, and that's why they announced this weekend that Sex Education is also getting a second season. And they even added that this second season will ‘come’ faster than we think. So if you're looking for bad puns, Netflix has you covered, we know that now.
Because yes, as the name suggests... Sex Education is indeed mainly about sex. The 16-year-old Otis is the main character, who is still a virgin and even finds masturbation disgusting. But he deals with sex daily: his mother is a sexologist with a practice at home. When his classmate (and secret crush) Maeve discovers his knowledge of sex, they decide to provide their fellow students with underground sex advice, in exchange for money. A way to earn some creative extra cash, and it also helps with Otis's popularity. Because let's be honest, being popular in high school was for most people naturally #lifegoals.
Has this little description not convinced you yet? No worries, it honestly didn't convince me right away either. I was afraid of unfunny clichés and a lot of awkward scenes. But I gave the first episode a chance and was immediately hooked. How Sex Education tackles relatable topics, from incredibly funny to painfully awkward, is something I haven't often seen in a series. For example, Otis's best friend is ‘out and proud’ and doesn't always get the most pleasant reactions to that. Unwanted pregnancies are also discussed, but all those heavy topics are treated in a very down-to-earth way, making Sex Education really feel like a feel-good, binge-worthy series and it's also very funny.
Additionally, it's also refreshing to see that the students in a series are actually portrayed as students and not obviously in their twenties (cough, Riverdale...). Yet it's not a childish series, and the jokes made are very sharp. I should mention that it's a British series, which you sometimes forget because the cool guys at school are walking around in American football jackets, and I've realized that I do enjoy that British humor. There's a good chance you'll fall for it too.
What do we already know about season 2? Just like season 1, it will have eight episodes of about 50 minutes each. I had watched those episodes in one sitting and secretly hoped for more. Although for my active and social life, it might be better that this isn't the case... This might already be the Netflix hit of 2019, and it's only February. That says enough, it seems to me. So let's watch.
