Team Tiramisu?

May-britt Mobaoch

This vacation (here you can find my tips for Puglia by the way) our faithful travel companion was the book ‘Wegens vakantie gesloten’ by Volkskrant correspondent Jarl van der Ploeg. He describes the peculiar behaviors of the Italian people and tells all sorts of interesting things about the country and its people. Since Jarl is quite a fan of tiramisu, he shared this great story.

The divine dessert would actually find its origins in a busy brothel. The madam was looking for a way to entice exhausted clients into a second round, shall I say. A dessert with such a high sugar content, coffee for energy, and cream for desire would give an instant kick, making the men crave an ‘encore’ again.

And I thought the name (literally translated: pull me up) referred to the fact that you had to bore your spoon through all the layers and scoop it up.
