Moet bezoeken: Basilicata

If Coppola says it, then you have to believe it. In his words: here you see the earth as it was meant to be. He is talking about the region of Basilicata in Italy. You might know it from the city of Matera, which is on the World Heritage List because of its Sassi, better known as cave dwellings. Basilicata has nature, but also culture and very importantly: it has not yet been overwhelmed by tourism. This piece of Italy lies in the curve of the heel. The city of Matera is fairy-tale beautiful, but the coastal town of Maratea on the Tyrrhenian Sea is also breathtaking and is said to house unmissable seafood restaurants. So we actually have just one piece of advice: drive through when you are in Puglia, just southward.
