Teen Mom: how are the most famous teen mothers doing now?
Long, long ago, when MTV occasionally still played music videos (that’s really long ago, right?), suddenly there was a new guilty pleasure: Teen Mom. If you dig a little deeper into your memory, you might remember that we could also follow these teen moms in 16 and Pregnant. The first season of Teen Mom aired in 2009 (I feel so old writing this), already ten years ago. That means that Jenelle, Farrah, Catelynn & co's kids are no longer toddlers. No way, they can already read and write. Hopefully, they are not really into the internet, so they don’t get to see everything that is written about their moms. That’s not exactly nice. Those moms are of course no longer teenagers, but they have certainly lived a tumultuous life. Check here the 5 most discussed Teen Moms. Of course, also an update on what they are currently up to.
1. Farrah Abraham. It was a tearjerker, the story of Farrah and her little daughter Sophia. Sophia’s dad, Derek, died in a car accident two months before she was born. Terrible, and props to her for raising her daughter all by herself (and honestly: she is really an incredibly cute girl). But I always had the feeling that she participated in Teen Mom for the fame. For example, because she was already an ‘aspiring model’ before that, but mainly because she made the unusual decision to try her luck in the adult industry. Yes, porn, which then got her fired from Teen Mom. In the meantime, she is trying to start a vlogging career and is seen in Ex on the Beach USA.
2. Catelynn Baltierra. Aaahh, this is nice. Catelynn is still together with her Tyler Baltierra. Yes, the one she was seen with from the beginning in Teen Mom. They welcomed baby number three this past February. They seemed to have hit a tough patch, they even lived apart, but now they are so happy together with their kids. Happy endings do exist after all. They had the least drama of all the couples, and I always thought Tyler was really a sweetheart, so I’m glad they are still together in 2019.
3. Amber Portwood. Unfortunately, for Amber, that happy ending is a bit less. Also very sad, I always found her a sweet girl in Teen Mom who might have been a bit naive at times. And yeah, that naivety has indeed proven to be true. She has not been with Gary, the father of their daughter Leah, for a long time. Then she got in touch with Matt Baier, a writer and DJ. Both with moderate success, which became apparent when he turned out to be in debt. And those debts came because he didn’t pay child support to the various women with whom he had multiple (!) kids. And yes, he had forgotten to mention that to Amber. He also forgot to mention that he had already sought contact with Farrah Abraham and Jenelle Evans before Amber. Oops. Bad news. Last December, she openly talked about wanting to commit suicide due to all the negative attention. We hope she is doing better. She is still seen in Teen Mom.
4. Jenelle Evans. The troubled one of Teen Mom, and that says a lot. Holy moly, do we remember her screaming mother? I seriously think she screamed more in that TV show than uttering sentences at a normal decibel level. And that goes for Jenelle too: their relationship mainly consisted of yelling at each other. Jenelle was fired from MTV last week due to recent scandals. And yeah, they are not nice. For example, her husband shot her dog. What? Yes, you read that right. Are you out of your mind? He was arrested by the police and Jenelle's three children were taken away from her. She could regain custody if she left her husband David and lived on her own. Interestingly, she decided not to do that, so her kids no longer live with her.
5. Maci McKinney. Let’s end on a slightly more positive note. Maci is doing quite well. She bought a huge house at the end of last year (we also immediately know that appearing on Teen Mom clearly pays off) and she is happily in love with her husband Taylor McKinney. Her household also includes three kids. Additionally, we see several photos on her Instagram with cast members Catelynn and Amber, so they are still friends. Not surprisingly, Farrah and Jenelle have been dropped as Teen Mom members and that contact has also been severed with their ex-Teen Moms.
