The 8 steps to get noticed by a street style photographer

streetstyle

You are in Paris, Milan, London, or New York, have put together an outfit with military precision, and are ordering a soy latte looking fleekerdefleek. Then you want, no you MUST, to be noticed by a streetstyle photographer who captures you on camera. As a reward and a dose of recognition for the fantastic creation you are wearing. Because there is nothing as depressing as walking onto the schoolyard with a new coat that no one comments on. These are the eight steps that will make a streetstyle photographer aim their telephoto lens at you:

Step 1

Make sure you are a walking painting. Everything must be perfect. Outfit, nails, bag, earrings, hair. And think outside the boring box. They should look back at you, make sure the paparazzi can’t get around you.

Step 2

Even if you are not invited, you go to a show during Fashion Week. That’s not weird at all, everyone does it. What happens inside is beautiful but outside a game is played between the photographer and The Fashion Girl.

Step 3

Now you have to lure them in. Make yourself interesting, that makes them blood-curdlingly curious, those photographers. Walk hand in hand with someone past and direct your gaze to the sidewalk. Then they all come at once. Just watch.

Step 4

Okay, if that doesn’t yield a streetstyle photo after the first time, then you go on repeat mode. Rome wasn’t built in a day either. Step counter on and go, walk past again. And again if necessary.

Step 5

Or you take two people with you, give them a Canon to hold, and start posing. Photographers have FOMO so they quickly follow when they see there’s interest in you.

Step 6

Become buddies with a photographer, that’s really a breath of fresh air. He takes your picture, emails them to you – because yes hello this is your moment and it should also be found on your feed – and he tells you other locations where he will shoot images of the hip and famous. Unravel his favorite coffee and pay for the taxi and you’re set.

Step 7

Stylish duos or trios, they love that in the fashion industry. Make sure you and a friend or two are coordinated from head to toe. Stand together casually and completely in sync. You should see it this way; you are directing your own perfect picture so that the photographer only has to click.

Step 8

If there’s no Fashion Week on the agenda, you can just repeat this recipe on a regular Tuesday. Go to a hippie spot and blend completely in with the surroundings. For example, by going to a vintage market in Shoreditch and sniffing around among the old LPs Pinterest Perfect. Then they will find you too. Guaranteed.
