the nicest spots in Malaga

malaga

Hello boys and girls! My Spanish is really quite terrible and often doesn't go beyond mumbling along to Despacito or ordering a beer in plain Amsterdam dialect. That doesn't stop me from going to this country as often as possible, because it is my absolute favorite when it comes to holiday destinations. Weekend getaways or weeks away, Spain is always a good idea. With the added argument that I the food in a country always find very important (for me, vacation is all about food and drink) and I can never get enough of tapas. Now I have already lined up a number of Spanish tips for you, but this city definitely belongs on that list. Málaga is the second largest city in the region of Andalusia and is the fifth city of Spain. Very different from Madrid or Barcelona, but definitely worth a visit. Anyway, a tour of Andalusia is no punishment: it is incredibly beautiful there.

But as I said, a visit to a city often revolves around food and drink for me, so I have lined up the nicest spots and hotspots in Málaga for you. Have fun! Yes, I had to Google that too.

The nicest hotspots in Málaga, Spain

BrunchIt

As you can guess from the name, this is the place to brunch. Due to the nice interior, but especially because of the super delicious food. And also very affordable. You can make it as (un)healthy as you want, from waffles to poached eggs with avocado or smoothie bowls. They also have locations in Marbella and Seville and soon in Madrid and Barcelona. So keep an eye on it.
Calle Alhondiga, 3 & Calle Carreteria, 46

Cortijo de Pepe

Delicious Spanish and delicious Spanish food. The interior is anything but hip, but that authentic atmosphere makes it very cozy. And oh my, that food. They have different types of menus, but also just à la carte. If you are, like me, a real tapas lover, you definitely want to check out this spot in Málaga.

Plaza de la Merced, 2

El Pimpi

We're still in the tapas vibe. This is probably one of the (or maybe the number one) most famous restaurants in Málaga. That is due to several things: it is the oldest bodega in the city and it has a special view of the Alcazaba fortress. Of course, it is also known for the delicious food. Opposite this spot is El Pimpi Marinero, where you can mainly order seafood dishes. A paradise for seafood lovers.

Calle Granada, 62

Drunk-O-Rama

A bit of a crazy name, but yes, you can indeed get drunk here. Although I would mainly go for the food, but of course a drink goes with it. It's a bit of a hipster spot, and they mainly call themselves Rock’N’Roll. In any case, it is a recommendation for a low-key dinner evening.

Calle Ramón Franquelo, 7

Mercado Merced

Anyone who has been to Barcelona has probably also stopped by the indoor food market. You have one of those in Málaga too, but a lot smaller. Still very tasty and affordable. I always find it nice to taste as many things as possible (because: choice stress) and the food stalls here really have countless options.

Calle Merced, 4

AC Hotel Málaga Palacio

I. Love. Rooftop bars. So yes, I also look for those in Málaga for a cocktail during sunset. Or during the day, and then take a dip in the pool. They are also open for lunch and dinner, but especially: check that cocktail menu.

Calle Cortina del Muelle, 1

Los Gatos

Very sad, but as a cat lover, I always assume that places with a reference to cats are good. So far that has proven to be true (a favorite spot in Barcelona has that too), because this is also a nice recommendation. It is always busy and chaotic, but that fits perfectly into the picture and guarantees a lively evening.

Plaza de Uncibay, 9

El Meson de Cervantes

Well, this list is full of tapas tips, but that's also because there is so much delicious food in Málaga. This hotspot also serves tapas, but with a modern twist and just a little different than usual. It's all just a bit more modern and you can also find G&T’s on the menu. Nice: it is still very affordable.

Calle Álamos, 11

Pez Tomillo

Last but certainly not least: this hotspot in Málaga by the beach, for the ultimate holiday feeling. Wooden tables and an open interior so you can see the sea from almost every corner of the restaurant. Well, what more do you want on vacation? On the menu, you will find – surprise, surprise – mainly tapas and yes, those are also a real recommendation.

Paseo Marítimo el Pedregal, 1
