These 3 things you want to do in Bali

For me, Bali is a bit of paradise on earth. Well, at least the affordable paradise on earth. So much delicious food, beautiful nature, the coolest hotspots, beautiful beaches and sunsets (and the latter is completely free) and it costs you so little here. Coming back sun-kissed and round as a barrel — even though there are plenty of healthy options and you can now eat your entire vacation at different spots with a vegan diet. Bali is not exactly big, but most (Dutch) tourists can be found at a handful of destinations. As we speak, I am on this island and have already encountered a Dutch couple three times in two different villages. Have you never been to Bali but do you plan to go? Check out the three things you absolutely want to do when you go to this island. If you want more tips on hotspots, accommodations, and things to do in Bali, check my highlights on  @wiekeveenboer. 1. islands next to Bali . I personally find Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan so nice to stay for a few days. No normal cars are allowed, only some small cars that drive around the island. Renting a scooter is therefore a must. Nusa Ceningan is the smaller of the two islands, and they are connected by a yellow bridge. You have some nice beach clubs like Le Pirate (Nusa Ceningan), Sandy Bay, and Ohana’s (Nusa Lembongan), and nice breakfast and lunch spots (Bali Eco Deli and Lemongrass) and you can catch the sunset with a cocktail at The Deck. If you want a bit more liveliness (because Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan are mainly for ultimate relaxation), then visit the Gili islands, especially Gili Trawangan. It officially belongs to Lombok (so be careful not to sleep near a mosque — it wakes you up quite loudly at night), but it is very doable by boat from Bali.. Stay a few days in Ubud and fill your days with day trips and activities. Yes, many people now find Ubud touristy, too busy, etc. I think it’s an ideal base to stay for a few nights and from there do some activities (for example, before or after you chill out on Nusa Lembongan). Climbing the volcano Gunung Batur, which is an active volcano north of Ubud. You’ll be busy with that for about a day and a half to two days, but it’s really a cool experience. You also want to visit the waterfalls (for example, the Sekumpul waterfalls — there are several, some busier and more touristy than others) and swim in them, of course, go through the rice fields (I did that by bike) and what I really enjoyed: a cooking class. Right in the middle of the rice fields. Yes, even the worst kitchen princess does well here, you know. In between, just stop by the Monkey Forest, just because it’s part of it. Do be careful because last time I got peed on by a monkey and you definitely don’t want that. Cheeky monkeys.

2. Surfing. A surf lesson in Bali really costs nothing and is so much fun to do. And very heavy, I found. For the beginner surfer, you’re in good.

3. in Canggu (you’re definitely good in Canggu) and if you’re a bit more experienced, you can choose to surf in Uluwatu — but I often found the waves there quite tough (but I’m not an experienced surfer…). Admittedly, I find the surfers’ community quite unique, but the after-surf drinks are even more fun and it’s quite a cool feeling when you can stand on that board for the first time for more than a second. a beach with a setting sun and blue houses with white walls.
