You really don't have to tell us that we are a nice country, you know. We have known that for a long time. But it is also nice when the recognition comes from outside. You see, the editors of Lonely Planet have a very tough life. They travel halfway around the world to sniff out the best destinations for us for the coming year. And this year, Holland gets a special honorary spot in the Best in Travel list.

What is being said about us? ‘Vibrant Amsterdam is always worth a visit, but the other cities are also completely ready. Make use of the excellent train network and discover the many beautiful places this country has to offer – you often get a better deal too.” The editors also agree on the best times to visit: April and May. “Because besides King's Day and Liberation Day, the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Rotterdam this year. Go exploring outside the cities with the growing network of over 35,000 kilometers of cycling paths and discover the natural wealth that this small country has to offer, such as on the Wadden Islands.” Ah gosh. At moments like this, I realize even more what a cozy country we actually are. Anyway, if you want to know where to go according to the real travel enthusiasts in 2020: behold the list of lists.

Top 10 Countries
1. Bhutan
2. England
3. North Macedonia
4. Aruba
5. eSwatini – since last year still Swaziland but the king has changed the, um, name.

I say: expand that bucket list.
