This film is called the new Love Actually

Recently, I gave a bit of an unfiltered review of the movie The Knight Before Christmas and it turned out not everyone agreed. Watching movies without thinking seems to be quite a nice activity (though I've never tried to claim otherwise — I wouldn't want to do anything else), I still prefer to actually recommend a movie that is really fun. Enter: Let It Snow.
Because those Christmas vibes, I believe everyone enjoys them. And a bit of sweetness every now and then is nice too. And a bit of romance. Oh, and in this case, also a really nice soundtrack. It's so popular, by the way, that Netflix has conveniently released the entire setlist. We all know what happened to Lizzo's song after it was played in Someone Great… Yes, that one, after she did a DNA test. That was released back in 2017 and suddenly crashed into the charts two years later. I bet she's grateful to Netflix.
But anyway, I'm getting sidetracked: this movie. You. Want. To. See. It. It's already being cautiously called the new Love Actually, or the new Christmas classic. Bold statements, yes, because Love Actually is indeed the number one Christmas movie of all time. But I must say: I see the similarities. Of course, the different storylines (which we also didn't subtly imitate in Alles is Liefde, but hey, it works), although the average age in Let It Snow is a bit lower. That's actually not annoying at all and makes the movie genuinely fun for young and old. It also helps that the cast can act quite well and there are few cliché lines (or that ‘cool’ teenage language, clearly written by adults).
Okay, who do we have in the cast? A hopelessly in love boy who has wanted to ask his BFF out for years but doesn't dare. A pop star who falls in love with a ‘normal’ girl. A girl who is afraid her boyfriend wants to break up this Christmas (the worst timing you can think of). A popular girl who is secretly in love with another girl — and this is mutual. Eventually, they all end up at a party on Christmas Eve.
It's probably no surprise to anyone that it has a happy ending, so yes, that sweetness is in there, but I really found this a nice movie to watch, not so superficial (*cough* The Knight Before Christmas) and absolutely a recommendation to watch with the family. And if you already know the title: it's based on the book. Which I am now also going to buy.
