Tips for a great holiday in Taba

Yegh. Out the door when it's still dark and coming home in the dark... Rain. Wind. Little daylight. Grumpy faces. Hi winter, all very nice and lovely, I know you wanted to grab me but I got ahead of you and stepped onto the plane to Taba, the newest sun destination of Sunweb in Egypt. The cool thing about the resort? It's a good base for both a lazy beach holiday and an active I-want-to-do-and-see-everything trip. Heading that way soon? This is what you should do when you're in Taba.

1. Snorkeling

Trust me: of all the snorkeling sessions I've had in my life – and I'm quite the water rat – those in Egypt were the most special. And the water stays wonderfully warm and clear all year round. Meine gute, the underwater world of the Red Sea... You have to see it to believe it. An absolute must: get a GoPro to capture those Nemos, Dorys, and moonfish.

2. A trip to Petra
You know, one of the seven new wonders of the world in Jordan. I didn't know where to look in this city carved from rock. I was so impressed. Indiana Jones was also filmed there, by the way. Read here why I'm so enthusiastic about Petra. 

3. Stay closer to Taba?

Then you can also take a trip to neighboring Israel. The resort town of Eilat is just past the Egyptian-Israeli border. Jerusalem and Bethlehem are also popular excursions to do from Taba. You'll be on the bus for a few hours, but believe me, it's worth it.

4. Cross through the Sinai desert
You can do this like we did in a 4×4. Dune bashing through the vast desert landscapes, peeing your pants from the screaming and of course a hike through Canyon Salama for the real traveler pics.

5. A day at Castle Zaman

Fan of lamb and stews? Oh boy, this is your spot. We went there in the evening (I think a fifteen-minute drive from Taba), but next time I would go there in the afternoon. They have delicious cocktails, a swimming pool, and the owner even boasts a treasure room downstairs, where he sells handmade bags and trinkets. Very cute.

6. Do: sleep at Hotel Mosaique Beach Resort

The millennial pink vibes on the walls, the mosaic steps, the pastel colors; the full shebang. Ideal for a week of sun, sea, beach, lounging, and nothing.

Good to know: you fly directly with Transavia from Amsterdam to the new Ramon airport in Eilat, Israel. This flight takes about 4.5 hours. From there you take the bus to Taba. Bye bye winter blues! And have a nice holiday, okay.
